1.What is MetaTrader 5?

MetaTrader 5 (MT5) is a multi-asset trading platform used for Forex, CFDs, and more. It's the successor to MT4 with a 64-bit, multi-threaded architecture, a built-in economic calendar, an improved Strategy Tester, more timeframes, both netting and hedging modes, and the MQL5 language for indicators and expert advisors.

3.Account Types: Demo vs Real

Demo Account

Practice with virtual funds. Ideal for learning and testing indicators/EAs.

Real Account

Live trading with real capital. Requires KYC and risk management.

Key differences:

  • Execution and slippage may differ on real accounts.
  • Emotions and risk tolerance change with real money.

Best practice: Start on Demo; switch to Real only when you have a repeatable process.

4.First Connection to Your Broker Server

Prepare

Login (account number), Password, Server name (e.g., Broker-MT5-Demo).

Login in MT5

File → Login to Trade Account → enter Login/Password/Server → OK.

Missing server?

Click "Add new broker", type the broker name, select the server.

Verify connection

Bottom-right status or Toolbox → Journal ("authorized").

Common issues:

  • "Invalid account": Wrong server or password (case-sensitive).
  • "No connection": Firewall or wrong server name; check internet and server string.

I don't see my broker server.

Click "Add new broker", type the broker name; wait for the list to load.

Can I use MT5 on macOS?

Yes via native MT5 for macOS or compatibility layers. For EAs, Windows or a Windows VPS is recommended.
